Vendôme

En ce premier jour de l'année 2009, nous sommes allés faire une promenade congelée à Vendôme. Cette ville de 18000 habitants est située dans la vallée du Loir, au nord de Blois. On this first day of the year 2009, we did a frozen walk in Vendôme. This city of 18,000 inhabitants is located in the Loir Valley, northern of the city of Blois.

Elle est traversée par l'ancienne nationale 10, que l'on utilise lorsque l'on vient d'Amboise, ce qui permet d'observer de nombreux vestiges de l'importance passée de cet axe de circulation (stations services en ruines, etc.). Désormais, c'est le train qui permet aux habitants de la ville de rapidement rejoindre Paris ou Tours sachant que Vendôme possède une gare TGV (non reliée au réseau ferroviaire classique et située à quelques kilomètres de la ville). C'est aussi le principal pôle industriel et commercial du nord du département de Loir et Cher. It is bisected by the former National 10 road, which we used from Amboise, where can be seen many remnants of the increased importance of this axis (gazolin stations in ruins, etc. .). Now it is the train which will enable the residents of the city to quickly reach Paris or Tours since Vendôme has a TGV station (not connected to conventional railway and located at a few kilometers from the city). It is also the main commercial and industrial center of northern French department of the "Loir et Cher".

Nous commençons notre promenade à côté du parc Ronsard et de l'office de tourisme qui est hébergé dans une belle ancienne demeure. Ronsard surveille le jardin de la bibliothèque (l'auteur est né dans le manoir de la Possonnière à quelques kilomètres de la ville). Puis nous traversons le centre-ville pour aller vers la Porte Saint Georges. We begin our tour near theRonsard park and the tourist office which is housed in a beautiful old house. Ronsard oversees the garden of the library (the author was born in the manor of the Possonnière a few kilometers western from the city). Then we cross the downtown to go to the "Porte Saint Georges".

La maison "Fisseau" a colombages à proximité de la porte (ci-dessus) est contemporaine car elle fut réalisée par un charpentier Compagnon du devoir en 1947. La porte Saint Georges est médiévale. Elle a été remaniée au 16ème siècle. A l'origine, 4 portes entouraient la ville. The house "Fisseau" a near the door (above) is contemporary because it was built by a carpenter companion in 1947. The "Porte Saint Georges" is medieval. It was rebuilt in the 16th century. There were originally 4 doors like this one around the city.



Le château de Vendôme est en ruines (17ème siècle), depuis sa place, nous avons une très belle vue sur la ville. The castle is in ruins (17th century), from this place, we have a beautiful view over the city.

Ce panorama permet de photographier entièrement l'abbaye de la Trinité. A noter que nous avons découvert une rose résistante au froid conquérant dans les jardins du château. Mais revenons vers le centre-ville et traversons le Loir pour aller voir l'abbaye. This overview allows you to photograph the entire abbey of the Trinity. La façade, très chargée, de la Trinité est du style gothique flamboyant. Elle attire le regard. The facade has the Gothic style.

L'intérieur de l'édifice est très sombre (et frais) et peu propice aux photos. Néanmoins, vous pourrez admirer la crèche! The interior of the building is very dark (and cold) and not conducive to the photos. However, you can admire the Christmas scene!



La bibliothèque est du 19ème siècle (ancienne mairie de la Ville). La dernière photo montre la place Saint Martin, qui est très commerçante. The library is the 19th century (former cityhall). The last photo shows the St. Martin square, which is very commercial.

Ce fut une promenade sympathique qui eu également le gros avantage d'améliorer la digestion des agapes du Nouvel An. Vendôme est une ville tranquille... Par contre, qu'est-ce qu'il faisait froid! It was a nice walk which has also the big advantage to improve the digestion of the New Year meals. Vendôme is a quiet town...
