Romorantin

Romorantin, ou Romorantin-Lanthenay (fusion des deux communes en 1961) ou encore "Romo" est la principale ville de Sologne et du sud du département de Loir et Cher. Elle a approximativement le même nombre d'habitants que Vendôme (18/19000). Romorantin or Romorantin-Lanthenay (merging of the two municipalities in 1961) or "Romo" is the main city in Sologne and southern French department of Loir et Cher. It has approximately the same number of inhabitants of Vendôme (18/19000).

Peu touristique et relativement isolée jusqu'à ce que l'autoroute A85 soit inaugurée, elle mérite néanmoins une visite de notre part pour y découvrir les principaux attraits de son patrimoine (architectural). It is not a big tourist place and relatively isolated until the A85 motorway was opened, it deserves a visit from us to discover the main heritage (architectural) on the city.

Au début de notre balade, nous passons devant deux belles anciennes maisons à colombages, le "Carroir Doré"et la "Chancellerie". Romorantin possédait également un château dont il ne reste plus beaucoup de vestiges de nos jours. At the beginning of our trip, we pass aside two beautiful old timbered houses, the "Golden Carroir" and "Chancellery". Romorantin has also a castle which has not much ruines today.

Romo est aussi la capitale de la Sologne (telle est ainsi la dénomination de la ville mentionnée sur son site Internet). Il est vrai qu'elle est située au cœur de cette région humide et forestière, abondante en gibiers. Un musée sur cette espace naturel est présent dans un ancien moulin sur la Sauldre, la rivière qui traverse la ville. Romo is also the capital of the Sologne (as is the name of the city mentioned on his website). It is true that it is in the heart of this humid and forest region, where the is an abundant game. A museum on this natural area is in a former mill on the Sauldre river which crosses the city.

Le cadre sur la Sauldre est assez pittoresque. The sight on the Sauldre river is quite picturesque.



Traversons la rivière pour aller voir l'église paroissiale Saint Etienne (11ème - 19ème siècle). La photo ci-dessous a été prise par miracle entre différents véhicules et un camion de livraison juste devant la façade (pas malin ça...) L'intérieur de l'édifice est cosmopolite. L'église a connu de nombreux remaniements qui se repèrent lors de la visite. De plus, le mobilier et les aménagements contemporains heurtent aussi le regard par endroits. The interior of the building is cosmopolitan. The church has undergone many changes which can be seen during the visit. In addition, furniture and contemporary arrangements also have the look inside.

A côté d'un joli parc au bord de la Sauldre se trouve l'ancienne usine Matra (Mécanique.Aviation.TRAction), fermée en 2004. La Bagherra, la Rancho, les Renault Espace puis Avantime (dont la mévente est à l'origine de la fermeture de l'usine) ont été produites ici. Aside a beautiful park along the Sauldre river, there is the former Matra factury (Mécanique.Aviation.TRAction), closed in 2004. The Bagherra, the Rancho, the Renault Espace and Avantime (whose slump has caused the closure of the plant) were produced here.

Cette ville mérite un détour, outre cette promenade, vous pouvez aussi visiter le musée de Sologne (ouvert toute l'année) et l'Espace automobile Matra (qui sera de nouveau ouvert le 15 mai 2009). This city deserves a detour, in addition to this walk, you can also visit the museum of Sologne (open all the year) and the Matra museum (which will reopen on 2009, may 15th).
