In the Loire Valley, there are discrete monuments, sometimes little known and which, however, represent some really interesting visits. It is the case of this priory whose history starts during the 12th century. 800 years later, many parts are preserved and opened to the visit.

In 1127, the Count of Anjou Foulques V founded this priory whereas two hermits where there for a few years. The monastic life lasted until the beginning of the 18th century. At the time of the French revolution, the priory will be confiscated then resold to a farmer while the church will be destroyed (will only remain the bell-tower).

It is possible to discover various parts of the priory such as the small prison, the dormitory, the chapter house (the most beautiful), the room of the monks and the refectory with the pulpit of the reader sinks it (a fresco is perceptible on one of the walls). The owners of the places also shows us the house of the prior (enough simple).

It should be noted that all the other buildings surrounding the priory were built between 1930 and 1960 by Raymond Darasse, former owner of the priory. He achieved a colossal and succeeded work because these buildings are in harmony with the place.

The site is charming and resting. The visit is nice. The entrance fee is of 5€.

Fondettes

Here some photos taken during a walk around the town of Fondettes (in the western of Tours). Environment was quite green and we have chance with the weather. We could see the old Roman aqueduct of Luynes.

This town of 3900 inhabitants is at the eastern end of the island of Oléron (second larger island of France after Corsica). A fortress protects the city which is also a pretty fishing port.
