Saint Paterne Racan

Saint Paterne Racan is a village of 1500 inhabitants located at the northern of the agglomeration of Tours. The poête Racan (1586 - 1670) gave its name to the commune and has also made build a beautiful castle (which is visited only in August).

The walk of a little more than 10 km, that we did two weeks ago, makes it possible to discover the heart of the village but also the countryside in the neighbourhoods.

Just in the northern of the village (of which the center is in work and with a church with an original architecture), we discover a bénédictine vault named Saint Gilles (which dates from the 11th century) which is very well preserved.

Thereafter, during kilometers, we progress in the middle of the apple orchards which are very numerous by here. We did some strange meetings during the walk, including a small grass snake.

We collected much of blackberries during the excursion, but also nuts, hazel nuts and sweet chestnuts (it is the beginning of the season). Enikö cook a soup with the blackberries.

It was a quiet walk, under a beautiful sun and pleasant temperatures. The country of Racan is peaceful and thus pleasant and resting to discover.

Located in the Beauce area in the countryside, in the North-Eastern of the city of Blois, Talcy is a charming château which deserves a visit.

Built on medieval bases (the keep remains the single testimony of this time), the current castle is especially from the 16th century. It is a banker, Bernard Salviati, who built it in its current form. The church of the small village (200 inhabitants) is stuck to the castle. In time, there was a passage between the two monuments. The castle has a basic but elegant architecture. Since 1932, it belongs to the State.

The interior preserved his pieces of furniture of origin (rare). All the room are thus very well furnished and arranged. The dining room as well as the office are the rooms which we appreciated the most.

After the visit, a walk in the garden is essential! the castle has in particular a splendid dovecote. The garden is flowered and has a very beautiful kitchen garden with many fruit trees. On the other hand, there is not practically more wood to the property.

It is a visit which we appreciated. The tariff of the entry is reasonable: 8,10€ if you include a visit with comments (5€ without them).

Yesterday evening, we sauntered around the castle of Amboise. The cultural service of the city hall of Amboise carried out 3 pedestrian courses through the heart of the city to discover the historical inheritance.

In a first step, it is necessary to walk up on the slope circumventing the castle from where a large sight on the downtown area is offered to us.

The walk continues on the other pouring of the slope, along the Loire river.

Then, we walk near the royal castle (very difficult to photograph correctly since the Concorde's street!)

There are two other different “flaneries”, to discover the historical inheritance of the city and one along the Loire.

2007 is undoubtedly a remarkable year for the mulberries in France! These last sprinkled months supported the growth of these fruits. As soon as we walk on the ways of the countryside, some infinite harvests seem possible!

Consequently, this year, you should not hesitate to gather some (prudently) because they are abundant.

In Rousiers deTouraine, on last Sunday, we had collected 800 grams of mulberries. With myfamily, this Saturday, we gathered more than 5 kg!

After our tourangelle harvest last weekend, Enikö prepared an excellent foam with mulberries.

But it is also possible to prepare gelly of mulberries, as my father did it.

Here two photos of the royal castle of Amboise! The first is panoramic:

The second picture, standard, taken from the island in the middle of the Loire is thus the hyper traditional sight of the monument:

Theoretically, we should visit the castle and have additional photographs in a few weeks.
